cross-stitching clothes

I would like to cross-stitch a pattern onto a top, would I use normal aida.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I thought you used waste canvas on clothing. I used it on a top I liked that unfortunately had a small hole in it. The cross stitch design covered it up wonderfully.
