View Full Version : trade/sell area
can't we have a forum where people are able to buy/sell/ swap their kits etc but not allow any commercial adverts? it would be really great.

I think it's a great idea, but difficult to control and ensure that people don't just copy stuff to sell or swap.
hi,
ideally it would rely mostly on a person's honesty, and obviously it would be moderated anyway so if there were any problems it would be dealt with promptly.

Hi Rose
I recently had experience of that 'honesty'. Some one emailed me a chart that they had scanned, she wanted nothing in return, I wonder if she would be so willing to do that if she were a designer? Fortunately it was something I already own, and my own honesty was not tested. If we all did things like that, would the designers be so keen to keep on producing wonderful designs for us to fall in love with? I would love to be able to swap my charts with others, but that experience has put me off. I now feel that any swap I make may result in me sending an original used chart and receiving a photocopy or scanned chart. OK no money is made, but the designer is still being ripped off as illegal copies of their charts are being passed around. I for one think that is wrong. Unfortunately moderators cannot control our email or the contents of an envelope in the postal system. Find some way of policing the actual exchange, and we're in!
its a shame that there are some people who are prepared to be this dishonest, and i can see your point but i can honestly say i've had some great experiences from exchanging on other forums and so far have never had any problems. i suppose like many things these days there is a risk that has to be taken. the only other way would be to have a middle person but then it starts to get a bit ridiculous. but its interesting to view so many opinons on the matter.

Hi
I saw an idea on an Australian forum a few months ago where a chart 'round robin' was set up. Basically someone starts off the robin with unwanted charts then the next person takes out 1 or 2 they like and adds 1 or 2 of their unwanted charts. It had a co-ordinator and the 'members list' was kept to a maximum of 12.
Obviously only original charts are acceptable so the copyright is not infringed.
I would be happy to start it off with charts.
Anyone else interested ?

I would be interested in that! But I am just wondering how can you tell the difference between a photocopy and an original chart because when they are making the kits in factorys dont they just copy the charts anyway?

Most copied charts are A4 and only have print on one side. I don't think I have any original charts which are A4 but they also have print on both sides.
I think the round robin idea is great, I do have the odd chart which I don't think I will stitch again and I don't have any friends who are into cross stitching to swap them with. (I have tried but they don't have the patience and prefer to recieve them as gifts from me rather than spending the time doing them)
I am a member of sites where we swap unwanted competition prizes, we have a thread used by the mods to inform of members who have abused the system to warn others.
Another forum has guidelines on who can swap e.g time of membership or amount of activity on the forum, so that the swaps are generaly people you "know" and not someone who just joined just to try and get somthing for nothing.

What about a place for swapping or buying old cross stitch magazines, and books.

Hi.Ihate to throw away all those wonderful charts I get here in Spain. Most of the designs featured in the magazines here are in a centre pull-out and are full charts, sometimes I only use one of the charts and finish up with five or six that I don't use, any suggestions?. I'm new to both the web and computers, (the Internet took a little time to catch on here since we live out in the wilds of Spain), so sometimes I struggle with the concept of forums etc.
