Hi lulabel.
Think this is my first post to this website but seeing your post about stitching for charity made me sign in because i know of quite a few uk based charities that ive recently signed up too and hoping to get stitching for them.
There is:
1) SOLAK - Stitches of love and kindness, make blankets out of cross stitch squares that are sent in and they send them out to either adults or children who are suffering from various serious illnesses or terminal illnesses, either in uk or usa. BUT you can choose who you stitch a square for so if you want to stitch for children in UK then just sign up for squares for them. www.stitchesofloveandkindness.com/index.html and has a yahoo group where details of people needed blankets are.
2)OECS - Operation Elderly Charity Stitchers
Blankets are sent to elderly people in nursing homes in the UK, made up from many cross stitch squares sent in. http://uk.geocities.com/oecs_central/ Also has a yahoo group too
3)The Angel Quilt Project - It has different divisions, mainly USA and UK. It has yahoo group for both UK and USA.
They give blankets with one major cross stitch square in the middle to neo natal units for premature babies or still born babies. Apparently there is usually a UK based website but at the moment that is down so go to www.aqphome.org/ and theres loads of information on there including yahoo group address.
Hope they helped, sorry if i babbled but i just think they are really worthy causes, i would love to stitch for the last one but i think i will do a few little ones for the others and then focus on some bigger cross stitches for the babies later on.
Hope you take up stitching for one of them im hoping too too hehe.

Hi Loiuse,
I read your post and think it is a lovely idea to stitch for these charities so I am going to sign up too. Thanks you so much for posting these web sites, I didn't know they existed, except for the elderly one, and it will give meaning to some of the stitching we do.
Hope you are well and stitching away busily, ha-ha.
luv Lynn. x ;)

SOLAK mentioned above, is a wonderful group. I also love to stitch for the sister group, Friends To Seniors (http://www.friends2seniors). We stitch lap quilts and pillows for elderly people in residential homes or living alone. A couple of years ago we also started to produce knitted and crochet blankets to provide extra warmth - they are quicker to make up than the lap quilts, and though not as personalised, very cosy and pratical!! Squares are usually 6 by 6 inches (design below 4x4 inches), on white or cream fabric....but any colour/size will be used eventually, in a quilt or pillow. If you join the Yahoo FTS group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/friendstoseniors/), you can sign up for individual quilt requests. Alternatively, you can stitch for the 'warehouse'...the warehouse is fantastic, espeically if an urgent quilt request comes along, there are plenty of squares to hand to put something together quickly!
